The Decatur Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Project planning committee announces the cancelation of the January 16-18, 2021 Service Project due to lingering and ongoing issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first priority is the health and safety of Decatur’s older residents and the volunteers who go into the homes. Because of the hands-on nature of the annual event, including the extensive planning and preparation, the COVID-19 health emergency does not allow us to hold the Service Project safely in 2021.
Thanks to all our generous sponsors. We could not pull off this event without your support!
While we were not able to have our yearly Restaurants for Repairs dine-out in 2020 due to COVID-19, we would like to thank the 2019 participating restaurants. Please support these restaurants as they continue to give back to our community.
Begun in 2003, Decatur’s MLK Jr. Service Project provides free house maintenance and repair for Decatur’s needy senior homeowners each January. In January 2015, approximately 1,300 volunteers contributed over 10,000 hours of time helping 41 senior households during the 3-day weekend project. Thank you for helping these seniors to live more safely, comfortably and affordably in their homes as a result of these much needed repairs and yard work. We look forward to your joining us during the next Decatur Martin Luther King Jr. Service project, which will take place January 16, 17, and 18, 2016.
