Solarize Decatur teaming up with MLK Service Project!

Solarize Decatur-DeKalb is proud to announce it is teaming up with the MLK Day Service Project to donate solar energy systems to qualified homeowners. The solar energy generated will reduce the amount of electiricity purchased from the utility and help reduce electricity costs for fixed and low-income seniors for many years to come. Summit Solar and Solar Crowdsource have pledged to donate a portion of campaign proceeds to fund this initiative.

In other Solarize programs, the charitable project is determined at the end of the program when campaign proceeds are known. But this time the coaliton decided to make the decision sooner so campaign participants know where a portion of their money is going and feel good about helping make it happen.

We don’t yet know how many vulnerable seniors will benefit from this initiative. Several homes are currently being evaluated. The great thing about working with the MLK Day Service Project is that the more homeowners and businesses that participate in Solarize, the more homes we can install solar and the more money we can save on electricity bills. Just like we worked together to bring down the cost of solar, we are also working together to reduce the energy burden for the most vulnerable and make the biggest impact possible.

We will continue to update you on this great project and thank you for your participation in this terrific program!
