I have to say that I’m one lucky man. I’m married to an amazing and beautiful woman and we have been blessed with a daughter that teaches us how special life can be every day. And we live in Decatur – how awesome is that?!!!
We’ve lived in Decatur for about 10 years and I’ve been a part of the MLK Service Project for many of those years. It’s a very rewarding weekend and I’m more than happy to offer my time. It’s great to see the huge turnout of volunteers every year and inspires me to keep showing up. The homeowners are in real need of the work that is done and they are very grateful. Working on a task with fellow volunteers feels great, but taking the time to sit down and talk with the residents about days gone by is a real treat!
I encourage anyone who can set aside some time during the MLK weekend to help out. You’ll come away with a new love for your community! — And the keg of beer at the Monday evening dinner is an added plus!!
