The Community Center of South Decatur would like to publicly thank Marc Brennan and the staff at the UJoint and Oakhurst Market for putting on a fantastic recognition dinner for the hard working volunteers during Decatur’s MLK Service Project weekend in January. Head chef Harriet created a menu with lasagna (including a vegetarian offering), salad, bread, dessert and beer for the adults. They donated the meal, feeding more than 250 volunteers on Monday to cap off the annual weekend of service, as they have done for several years. January marked the 13th anniversary of this citywide service project. This year, volunteers fanned out to 26 homes in Decatur, fixing plumbing, installing wheelchair ramps and doing other home repairs and yard work designed to allow qualifying seniors to continue living safely and comfortably in their homes.
